Resort Overview

Porters is one of New Zealand’s most accessible ski resort, located just over 90 mins drive from Christchurch in the middle of the South Island.

With panoramic mountain vistas of Lake Coleridge and expansive views over the Southern Alps from the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch, Porters offers breath-taking scenery.

Porters is a great family friendly resort. A cosy atmosphere and easy to navigate terrain means skiers and snowboarders of all abilities can easily enjoy their day on the slopes together.

Activities and Attractions

At Porters you will find 285 hectares of skiable terrain perfect for beginner and intermediate levels whilst the easily accessed out-of-bounds bowls provide an extended adventure playground for the experts.

The resort has excellent activities and facilities for those who are new to the snow. A carpet-lift makes progression for beginners easy and their platter lift provides access to some of the best intermediate slopes in the country.

Porters is also home to a highly regarded Snow Sport School and a training academy, where expert instructors are ready to help you improve your skills.

Resort Services

There is a fully-licensed café at Porters serving a wide range of homestyle food, espresso coffee, beer and wine. At the base lodge you will also find a ski and snowboard rental store and a shop selling snow gear and souvenirs.

After a day’s adventures on the slopes, the nearby townships of Methven and Springfield offer a range of accommodation, a relaxed après ski scene with good restaurants, bars and entertainment to choose from. From here you can also explore the regions’ other ski resorts and great off-snow activities.

There are a range of transport options available to help you get to Porters from Christchurch, Methven and Springfield. For those self-driving a complimentary shuttle bus runs from the chain-fitting area on the Porters Ski Area access road.
