Melbourne / Victoria’s Snowfields
Set amongst majestic snow capped mountains, Victoria’s Snowfields is home to some of the southern hemisphere’s most accessible snow holiday destinations.
Located between 3-5 hours drive north east of Melbourne in Victoria’s High Country region, you can choose from three international-standard ski resorts – Mount Buller, Mount Hotham or Falls Creek. Victoria’s alpine resorts boast some of Australia’s best downhill and cross country ski trails serviced by extensive lift networks. There are 250 downhill runs and 50 lifts throughout the three main resorts.
You can improve your skills at all of the resorts with private or group lessons, and dedicated kids’ clubs, fun beginner programs or advance ski coaching are available as well. An exciting variety of other snow experiences are also on offer, such as children’s snow play areas, snow-shoeing, dog sledding, snow grooming and snowmobile tours.
For additional sightseeing experiences, explore Victoria’s High Country on your way to or from the snow. Visit world class wineries, enjoy fresh local gourmet produce and explore quaint regional townships located a short drive from the base of each resort.
The most popular way to get to Victoria’s Snowfields is to either drive from Melbourne or join a private tour. If you choose to self drive, please note that there are specific wheel chain requirements enforced in most resorts. Please refer to the GAO Snow safety information section for more information.
Falls Creek and Mount Hotham are also serviced by a local airport at the nearby regional city of Albury, with direct flights operating from both Melbourne and Sydney.
